Resumen

SUMMARY

Recovery is a determining factor for performance and health in adapted sports, owing to the interaction among the functional, physiological, and psychological demands inherent to various disabilities. This narrative review synthesized scientific evidence on recovery methods used in athletes with disabilities, considering fatigue, muscle damage, sleep, nutrition, hydration, supplementation, training load, and psychological regulation. The results reveal heterogeneous data and evident limitations in characterizing athletic populations, as well as challenges associated with biomechanical constraints, chronic pain, and the emotional demands athletes face. The need for individualized, multidisciplinary interventions supported by scientific evidence is highlighted to optimize athletes' recovery in adapted sports. Finally, the review proposes the development and evaluation of new research lines and strategies to enhance the performance, safety, and overall well-being of athletes with disabilities.
