Abstract

Statistical analysis is a key tool for decision-making in professional soccer. This study uses a logit model to estimate the probability of the Tigres soccer team winning during the 2024-2025 season, based on variables associated with the team's performance. It was found that the most decisive factor for achieving victory is home advantage, while obtaining a greater number of touches, tackles, and yellow cards compared to the opponent is positively associated with the team's probability of victory. Conversely, achieving a greater number of crosses into the box than the opponent is negatively associated with this probability. Therefore, this research provides an empirical basis to facilitate better strategic decision-making for both management and coaching staff. It also represents a case of statistics applied to sports, which can be useful for teaching, research, and the training of professionals in exercise science, physical activity, and sports.
