Abstract

Introduction: Post-activation performance enhancement (PAPE) is a technique that can be used to achieve acute improvements in muscle performance. This is especially relevant in sports where strength and power are critical to movement. Elastic resistance (ER), due to its unique characteristics, can be used to design various types of conditioning activities (CA) that promote these enhancement effects. Objective: The objective is to analyze the effects of PAPE through the use of elastic resistance as the main element on muscle performance. Methodology: The systematic review follows the guidelines of the PRISMA protocol and is recorded in PROSPERO. Searches will be conducted in the databases of PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, ScienceDirect and Google Scholar. After applying the relevant criteria, 8 studies were included. Risk of bias is assessed using RoB2. Results: The analysis indicates that ER can be used as a main element to generate PAPE. Acute enhancement effects are observed from the immediate moment after the intervention or CA up to 10 minutes. Conclusions: The evidence suggests that ER is an effective strategy to generate PAPE effects on muscle performance. Acute enhancement shows responses across broad time windows, with the most substantial evidence appearing between 4 and 5 minutes of recovery based on the analyzed studies.
